Dzhokhar Tsarnaev covers Rolling Stones

This has bothered me. I am a huge journalism junkie, I enjoy watching media develop.

Rolling Stones is trying to adapt. They want to grow as a news organization by expanding their reach outside pop culture and music and into the serious nature of politics and current events. I feel that they have done a good job in doing so, however their recent decision to grace their cover with an alleged terrorist has stained what they worked hard for.

Remember, it was just a few weeks ago that their magazine got us inside the mind of Serena Williams. It was fantastically done and had everyone talking throughout Wimbledon–tennis’ biggest tournament– about it.

It was also just a few years ago that the magazine held the writing of now deceased journalist Michael Hastings. “The Runaway Journalist” captivated audiences and brought down General Stanley McChrystal. Fox and other conservative media have pointed to this in recent days to paint the picture that Rolling Stones takes down American heroes while promoting terrorist. I think that is really unfair.

However they brought it on themselves. This is dangerous. They are glorifying a murderer. I don’t like it.

This can have an effect on impressionable teenagers who do not know where they are going in life. Being a late teen or early twenty year old is a scary time because you are basically free falling. You can only hope to put yourself in a position to land on your feet. Teens that feel they are not doing this can be swayed easily.

This is not to say that the Rolling Stones are aiding American enemies but they are effecting our youth’s mind set. This is not the Rolling Stones, it’s the Trolling Stones.
